The cosmetic effect pigment global development and expert services group in Tarrytown, NY has an opening for a technical services and regulatory expert. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, and will be expected to independently manage technical and regulatory issues relating to our cosmetic effect pigment portfolio. A fundamental knowledge of cosmetic technology and colorants, along with an understanding of regulatory issues relating to color additives, is preferred. This position will work with various other teams, including product safety, quality, and R&D, and will interact with cross functional business functions such as marketing and sales. This person must be self-motivated with a hands-on approach to managing regulatory and technical needs of the cosmetic effect pigment business.
Responsibilities
- The ideal candidate will be highly organized and independent, capable of managing a range of regulatory and technical topics, and comfortable with communication to customers and across multi-functional teams.
- Develop a strong understanding of effect pigment technologies and global cosmetic color additive regulations.
- Author and manage technical and regulatory documentation related to our cosmetic product line.
- Provide technical and regulatory support for our customer base.
- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of general chemistry concerning cosmetic raw ingredients.
- Perform laboratory experiments relating to the technical evaluation of color cosmetic pigments and applications, including stability and compatibility analysis, color evaluation, and solvent drawdown preparation.
- Develop new and optimize existing laboratory and instrumental procedures for the evaluation and/or analysis of effect pigments.
- Monitor cosmetic customer and competitor developments and extract market intelligence information, contributing to our strategy and future development plans.
- Understand how to use analytical and experimental data to analyze cause/effect relationships between various components of cosmetic pigments and personal care materials.
- Assist in quality investigations to help manufacturing address customer complaints.
- Participate on R&D project teams as appropriate and provide input during the development phase.
- Actively participate in cosmetic scientific organizations and cosmetic trade associations, specifically regulatory and scientific working groups related to cosmetic color additives (e.g., Personal Care Products Council, European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), etc.)
- Closely follow BASF safety and environmental standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. in Chemistry or related science and 8 years of relevant technical or laboratory experience, or a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related science and 4 years of relevant technical or laboratory experience.
- Must have at least 2 years experience independently managing technical and/or regulatory requests with external customers, suppliers, or partners.
- Knowledge of color additive regulations is desired, especially as they apply to cosmetic and personal care products.
